Stuttgart

12 October 2011

The only tourist attraction in Stuttgart is the Mercedes Benz museum. Im not much of a car fan but the museum was great and we ended up spending the entire day there.
It was amazing to see how much impact cars have had on technology and cars we see today.

These worlds first engined automobiles. Both were built in 1886. The left hand carriage automobile by Daimler Benz where he installed his 'Grandfather Clock' engine and the right by Karl Benz 1886 the three wheeled gasoline engined automobile.

The Mercedes Simplex is the oldest mercedes still in existence

To insure the survival of their car companies after the rough period of hyper inflation after the first world war in May 1924 Diamler and Benz joined together to create Mercedes Benz

Not only did they make cars but also aeroplane motors, bikes, and typewriters. This is the worlds first production engine with gasoline injection

Mercedes Limousines. Each of the 7 floors of the mercedes musuem cars from each era from the first cars to the now futuristic cars. Its amazing how far technology has developed in such a short period of time from 8km/h joystick cars to cruise control, airbag 250km/h cars.

The BMW museum building itself was very futuristic

Mercedes Benz 300 SL Coupe. This sports car was known as the Gullwing with a max speed of 250km/h

This car recorded the highest speed ever on a public road to this day of 268.9mph on the Autobahn between Frankfurt and Darmstadt.

Some really groovy stairs and features to each level really looked cool

The BMW museum. With 7 floors of BMW history. We were told it would take 2hrs to go through the museum but it was so interesting that we spent 6hrs there and were kicked out at closing time.
