We left Stuttgart early and headed to Rottweil, the first stop on our route through the Black forest. We headed to the visitor center and were given a map of the town and a key to the watch tower.
We stopped for a picnic in the car (too cold to sit outside) at a nice view over St Georgen. We detoured off the "German clock route" we were following to go to Schiltach a pretty little town with a few entertaining (and free!) muesums. We had planned to stay in Schiltach but were surprised to find all the cheep accomodation was booked and the campground had closed early : ( so we continued on to Triberg to stay in the YHA hostel.
The watch tower was also once a prison. The watchman and his family lived in the tower and had to look after the prisoners and look out for fires and intruders. They had a bell they would ring if there was a fire.
We turned up at the tourist office and the lady gave us the key to the old town watch tower where they used to imprison witches. It was so cool. we walked up the road and climbed the tower with views all over Rottweil and the black forest.

Schiltach has had many devastating fires since the 13th century after the last big one in the 1800's 1 architect was brought in to design and rebuild the town resulting in all these similar sized houses in the same style.
Pretty side street with the mist in the hills
The Bath muesum. It had a full history of the culture of bathing in Europe and a show room of designer bath rooms and high tec showers. Very random and not what we expected but entertaining none-the-less.
