We spent the morning looking through Linderhof castle, another of Ludwigs impressive designs and where he lived for some time before he died. We then surprisingly ended up in Austria on our way to Fuessen where we had a quick lunch and then caught up with Alex in Krumbach.
Linderhof castle is the smallest of three palaces built by King Ludwig II
We explored the castle grounds and gardens surrounded by forest between the mountains near Oberammergau.
Garden terrace steps
In summer the gardens are covered in colourful flowers but now the gardens were bare and many of the statues were covered in wood to protect them from the snow
We had a tour inside the palace which exceeded our expectations. From the outside it looks tiny but on the inside there were so many rooms all uniquely decorated. This was the Kings cutlery holder on his dining table. The table had a trapdoor where the chefs would prepare his dinner in the kitchen below and the move it by pulleys to the Kings dining room.
The mirror hall was a really trippy room where you looked into the mirrors and saw yourself an infinite number fo times.
For our first time in the trip we unexpectedly ended up in Austria
We drove past amny glacial lakes on our way through Austria to Fuessen
We stopped for lunch in Fussen and visited the castle
The paintings drawn on the castle were said to be the originals
