We visited our highlight of Bavaria today the Disneyland fairytale castle Neuschwanstein. We enjoyed a quick tour of the inside of the castle and walked up a steep ridge to the top of Tegelberg where we had great views of the alps and castle.
It really felt like we were in a fairy tale with such unique views. The trees were all in their Autumn colours of red, yellow and orange, the lakes and countryside were sparkling and the rugged alps extended as far as the eye could see with a dusting of snow at the peaks.
We were short on time so decided to catch the gondola back to the bottom, but unfortunately the lady at the visitor center gave us the wrong closing time and we turned up 15 mins after the last one had gone. With less than 2 hours of sunlight and a 3 3/4 hr walk to the bottom we decided to jog and managed to make it to the car just as the sun was going down.
We woke up to a great day in Sulzberg with low lying fog all across Kempten
Our first view of the fairy tale Neuschwanstein castle
After a 30 minture walk we reached the castle with views across Fuessen
Front gate of Neuschwanstein
We had a tour in the castle. There were some really detailed neat rooms and even his own stalitite cave. Some rooms were not finished as Ludwig only partly finished the castle before he died
After our tour we enjoyed views of the castle from Marienbruecke (Mary's Bridge) which extended across the high gradient river below.
Neuschwanstein from Mary's bridge. There was a large shear drop to the river below which made the views even more spectacular
The picture perfect views across Alpsee (Lake Alp) with Ludwigs Hohenschwangau castle on the right. The weather couldnt have been better.
The closer we got to the Tegelberg summit the better the views got
Enjoying a quick break at one of the highest points where we had a 360 degree view of the alps. This is the Alpsee, Schwansee and both castles in the background.
Fresh snow on the side of the track
There were lots of parasailers jumping off the cliffs at the top of the gondola.
