Bird research for wind farm

Sunrise over Kaawa valley, on my way up the mountain to my observer site

Early morning fog burns off Kaawa valley

View from L1 where daily we saw dolphins and whales migrating up and down the coast

Britta and I hard at work at observer site C12

Karen and I enjoying the sun on our last day

Looking south to Raglan from coastal site L1

Most days were great with good weather and strong wind especially from C12 where we had a 360 view of the area

7 February 2010

For the past month we have been in Port Waikato sitting on hills with radar and radio communication tracking flocks of birds passing inland and up the coast. This has been part of the research that needs to be done for the proposed Waikato wind farm to go ahead.

wonderful photos.. Did you manage to spot albatross? We have seen one or two solitary ones over the past few years. Unfortunately found a young dead one on the shore at the base of L1]
