The highlights of the island were exploring their famous Chalk Cliffs, the Jasmund National Park and Cap Arkona. Some nice areas where we meet a lot of old German tourists.
Something we can't get used to is the pay parking. Everywhere you go on this Island you have to pay for parking. We were in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farmland and you still have to pay for parking : ( that sucks.
We walked through the Jasmund National Park to get to the Chalk cliffs. This was a large swamp.
The trees of this national park were very uniform and mainly the same compared to New Zealands diverse forests.
We found all the knarly looking caterpillars on the path.
Looking down onto the ocean from the viewpoint near the kings seat at the Chalk Cliffs
The coastline along the cliffs
This was an overhang straight down 80m to the beach
Looking over at the Koenigs Stuhl (kings chair)
We had a look through all the markets at the farm town of Putgarten at Cap Arkona. We really liked these haybail people.
Haybail man
There were all these cute thatched houses like something out of smallville.
The old and new lighthouses at Cap Arkona
We walked along sea path at the most northern point of the island. These are the remains of an old lighthouse.
Germans most northern point. Or so they tell us......
We climbed the lighthouse for some nice but windy views of the Ocean and surrounding farmland
We stopped at this nice little beer garden for fish rolls and some North German beer. It just had to be done.
