First ever Doner kebab, holocaust monument
It is great to be back in Berlin again. A city full with such recent history which has shaped Germany and the world. I love this city with the contrasts of the old East and West with something at every corner.
Our handy GPS on our phone has been getting us from A to B and making things a bit easier on the road.
We walked along the East Side gallery a 1.6km section of the old Berlin Wall which is still standing.
We stopped for lunch at the Hasir Doner kebab restaurant which is where the FIRST EVER doner kebab was made.
It was pretty tasty but all kebabs are yum in Europe. We also tried some baklava in a turkish sweet shop.
Check Point Charlie - the most famous checkpoint between east and west
This is a map of Berlin and the orange line shows the Berlin Wall around West Berlin.
Where the wall used to stand they have put this cobbled set of stones throughout the city. While Karen visited one of the Museums I followed the old wall through parts of the city
It went through buildings, across roads and through parks
This is another section of wall near Potsdamer Platz which is still standing
The old wall used to go where this building stands
At Potsdamer Platz the wall went through the station
This is the Holocaust monument dedicated to the 6 million people murdered at the concentration camps.
It was right in the city centre with with all these concrete blocks which you walk through which is a very trippy experience.
One of the concentration camps
Underneath the monument is a huge holocaust museum about individuals killed, the rise of hitler and the concentration camps.
