Cairngorms National Park - Aviemore

5 August 2011

The weather still wasn't very nice for walking so we headed up towards the ski slopes to see and feed a herd of reindeer owned by the reindeer company. From there we went to the Cairngorms Brewery for a quick tour of the small brewing area and an extensive tasting session of some of there 25+ ales. Most of their ales were produced seasonally for special events or seasons.

We stopped off in the little village of Carrbridge to see there famous bridge.

I feed the biggest deer I could find. This ones antlers were really massive and impressive. Their size and shape change year to year and vary from each individual

Karen feeds one of the raindeer. In winter they pull sleds through the snow

This was a male brought in from Sweden. Apparently their noses do actually glow slightly because of something these eat.

We visit the Cairngorms brewery who make seasonal fancy ales.

One of the 27 brews they make is sheepshagger. They export heaps of this to Australia lol. I never knew how well a name could sell a beer.

After a quick tour of the brewing rooms they sat us down and made us try beer after beer after beer. They were all really good but one I really liked was called blessed thistle which was brewed with thistle flowers to replace most of the hops.
