We wanted to see the pope make his appearance at the Vatican but apparently he no longer does this every week so instead we visited the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. It was hard to take in the hundreds of rooms of paintings, sculptures, art and CROWDS of people but its good to say we saw it all. We also visited the largest catacomb (underground burial tunnel) in Rome with was really strange.
After a 1hr wait and hundreds of people trying to sell us tours through the vatican museums we made into the muesums. There was so much stuff in it including this mummy.

This was one of the several huge impressive wall paintings by Raphael and his students
The very famous Sistine Chapel where the popes meet to elect a new pope. We thought it might be a little more spectacular than this although the paintings were impressive.
Sistine Chapel ceiling. In the center is the famous view of the hand of God reaching out to give life to Adam.
The Last Judgment Alter was painted by Michangelo from 1535 to 1541.
Model of the entire vatican city

Twin churches of Piazza del Popolo
The famous spanish steps of Piazza di Spagna.
Catacombs of San Callisto. This is where they used to bury people underground. There were over 40 found in Rome with hundreds of kilometres of tunnels dug. In this catacomb there were several popes buried. We also saw all the frescos on the walls and mini church rooms.
Burial chambers in the catacombs lined the tunnel walls.
