Bull fighting seems to be such a big part of spainish culture and I wanted to try and understand it. So on our final morning in Madrid we went to the Madrid bull fighting museum at the main bull fighting arena. It had an interesting insight into history of the sport. In the not so distant past certain Matadors were known internationally and seen as heros all over Spain.
There was one spanish matador who had been in the arena for 8 years and killed over 5000 bulls. However, many were not so lucky and at some stage had been gored and died. It was a little gruesome as they had the heads of bulls who had killed famous matadors and the blood stained clothes of those that had died. It was interesting to see that even in the 1800's there was conflict with bull fighting and it was even banned for a period of time.
After lunch at an indian restaurant we made our way on the metro to the airport to catch a flight to Liverpool. We got a huge shock when we got out of the plane where we went from 32 degrees and sunny in Madrid to 17 degrees and overcast in Liverpool, and apparently this was a great summers day.
