Exploring Vatican City and sights

5 July 2011

Im starting to enjoy Rome more now after being blown away by the shear size and business of this thriving tourist full city. We had a great day exploring the vatican city, climbing up the top of St Peters and checking out a whole heap of Rome sites.

Waiting in line to get into St Peters basilica

The main cupola (dome) in St Peters

The underground crypt of St Peters where many popes were in tombs

Inside St Peters. It doesnt look very impressive but in real life it is amazing with all the painted ceilings and domes just that little bit better than everything else we have seen so far. By looking at this church you can so how rich the vatican city is.

View from the terrace that went around the base of the dome.

The double walls inside the dome as we walked up to the top

The vatican muesums and sistine chapel from the top of the dome.

An amazing view of St Peters square and the rest of the church

The dome where we just climbed

Me touching the popes hand (might have to zoom in to see)

The heart of Vatican City looking towards St Peters Basilica

Castel Sant Angelo

A talented busker who sang, played the guitar and drums all at the same time in Piazza Navona.

The Pantheon

I was really excited about this small dome church with an open ceiling. A fantastic atmosphere as we had an orchestra playing while we were there.

Trevi Fountain - you are meant to throw a coin over your shoulder and its ensures your return to Rome
