Visiting Glenns Thai Family at Si Racha

9, 10 and 11 January 2013

From Bangkok we bused to Si Racha to catch up with the teachers Glenn used to teach with when he lived here during his gap year. We spend some time with Glenns super nice Thai family and teaches who made us lots of yummy Thai food.

We visited the Khao Kheow open zoo, spent the day at Glenns old school and did a day trip out to Ko Sichang an island 100km off the mainland.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo

After lunch with Glenns teachers we visited the Khao Kheow open zoo. This was the gibbon enclosure with several types from throughout Asia

There were about 10 Hippopotamus's. One sprayed us when it went to the toilet as they spin their tail and it goes everywhere.

Feeding the Rhino

It was a really nice zoo with lots of space for the animals.

Feeding the Elephants

Who was really driving?

We drove around on these golf carts as there was a big distance to cover. We accidently took someone elses cart when our key worked in its ignition and were chased down by the security.

Tigers

We had dinner with some of Glenns teachers and family

Ko Sichang Island tour

Chinese temple

View from the temple looking out over the harbour

This was a really interesting temple with dragons all over the pillars

People leave their messages/prayers on the wall in this kind of cave.

It was great to drive around on scooters and swim at the beach. This is the southern most point of the island.

There were many boats out fishing

Shrine on the hill of the Rama V Palace complex. We spent a nour walking around all the temples, gardens and different buildings.

We drove up to the big yellow buddha that dominated the hills from the pier.

Glenns Thai Family and School

Its custom when someone comes to visit to buy lots of food for the guest so we were given all this yummy Thai food from the markets. These coonut tasting pastries were great.

Everyone getting together to cook a smorgesboard of food

Salted river fish from the markets. It had been preserved in salt and I really like it.

Our big dinner with all different types of tradtional food.

This was the first time I have seen yellow watermelon

These are Glenns teachers. We went to the school and helped the students make a film about visitors to the school
