We had a full on day in the outdoors where we visited another cave, did some rock climbing and tubed down the river.
Vang Vieng used to be a party capital of Lao where everyone tubed down the river stopping at the hundreds of bars, pubs, swings, and jumping platforms along the way until several deaths forced it all to be shut down.
Tham Jang Cave is the most visited of all caves in this area. Probably because it has a concrete path and lights through it and is the most accessible. This cave was used as a hideout for marauding chinese in the early 19th century.
View of the river from the lookout in the cave
There was a crystal clear spring coming out of the cave so I couldnt resist a swim.
We went rock climbing on a series of walls north of town.
Karen half way up one of the climbs
Glenn reaches the top
Despite the large number of climbers there were some great climbs of varying levels
We saw this giant centipede come out of the rocks which made us think twice about where we put our next hand holds.
Me attempting a grade 5b climb
We had to take a small boat across the river to get to the climbing spot.
Eating some lunch before we hit the river for some tubing
Taking in the sun and views on the river and spotting the remains of the pubs and swings that used to be.
The local kids had a little business going where they stole your tubes at the end of the river tubing and would only give them back for a bit of money. So beware!!!
After seeing this balloon take off on our tubing trip we decided we had to give it a go tomorrow.
We had a Korean BBQ for dinner which was an experience in itself.
This dish is placed over hot coals. You cook your meat on the top and add water to the side to create a soup with the vegetables and spices.
We stopped every night while we werein Vang Vieng for these really good pancakes on the side of the road. They were cooked in front of you and had chocolate, condenced milk and banana drissled all over them.
