We had a far from easy couple of days getting to Nong Khiew after I got hit with severe fever, some really long slow local mini vans, and being told unreliable information. Travelling this route is definitely off the beaten track.
We were dropped at this junction to get a connecting bus to Vieng Thong. We had been told there were frequent buses but after 3 1/2hrs of waiting there had been nothing.
Right on sunset we waved down a large corn truck returning from Vietnam who luckily gave us a ride. After being cramped in buses the last few days it was complete luxury lying down looking at the stars. We meet some nice people at Vieng Thong who directed us to a really nice hotel.
Our bus to Nong Khiew didnt leave until midday so we visited the hot water baths in the town. Our spa didnt full up so well because of a big leak but we had a nice bath from the outflow pipes from the main hotpool lake.
