Destination Battambang, Cambodia

28 November 2012

After a big adventure trying to get to the main bus station we took a 6hr bus (turned into 7.5hrs which dragged on most of the day) to the Aranya Prathek/Poipet border.
The border was absolute chaos with people, cars, buses and animals everywhere. Locals tried to take us to a fake border before the corrupt tourist police tried to filter us onto their monopoly of scamming tourist buses. We used our cunningness to loose the police and find an unmarked taxi where Karen used her very persuasive teacher voice to get us where we needed to go. I don’t think they had ever heard a lady talk to them like that which put them off guard and the next minute the driver paid someone off we jumped in the car and 2 hours later we were in Battambang.

After an long day it was great to sit down to a beer and try some fish Amok – special Cambodian curry.

Our pad for the next 2 nights.
