Coromandel Classic - Norfolk in Chance

28 August 2012

Karen and I headed down to Thames on friday for the start of the coromandel classic. Andrew and I were a put back with a record number of entries into the race and 32 teams competing in the 2 man relay.
We finished day 1 with some solid racing and lay in a surprising 3rd place just 4 minutes off the second team.

The day 2 mass kayak start really put the words MULTISPORT into action. It was dead low tide and mostly just sand up the Tairua estuary resulting in 100 kayaks having to portage several times across the mud flats. We finished the kayak and bike ahead of the team coming in second but their strong runner took out 30 minutes from the rest of the field with one of the fastest runs of the day leaving us back in third. It was a tough weekend of racing and with very limited training we were so stoked to come out with a third place.
