Day 2: Omakau to Wedderburn

7 April 2012
We woke up at the crack of dawn to do a little side trip to Ophir before getting back on the trail to wedderburn. Everyone was a bit sore from yesterday and I was feeling a little tired after racing Amy 20+ times yesterday. It was a toughish bike with a gradual uphill all day. We were stoked to get to Wedderburn to drink a few beers and chill out at the tavern.

A chilly start in the fog on our side trip to Ophir

Delivering the mail at the old Ophir post office

Ophir bridge

Hard man comp 2: who could hold their hands in the water the longest. It actually wasnt that cold so we had a tie.

The moon was out when we got back on the trail in Omakau

Beer stop: Lauder for morning tea

Poolburn Viaduct

10km nude cycle through the Ida Valley. Jo was the only one game enough to go full starkers

Karen crossing another bridge

We stopped by a creek for lunch and a swim and cooled our speights in the stream

Hayes and Sons museum - very boring

Gilchrist’s store. This is New Zealand’s oldest continuously operating general store

We stopped for a beer at the Oturehua pub

A few km out of Wedderburn we reach the highest point on the Otago Rail Trail at 618m
