It is quite a sight at watching the gannets at colony in Muriwai. There were hundreds of birds cackling, jostling, squabbling, soaring around and fighting for space on the cliff edges where they nest.
We walked along the Goldie Bush walkway and back along the Mokoroa Stream Track via Mokoroa falls. The Goldie Bush walkway is muddy and quite repetitive but the Mokoroa stream track was great. Loads of stream crossings
Muriwai Gannet Colony
Evenly spaced nestling pairs at the muriwai gannet colony
One parent would look after their chick while the other went out to sea to forage
Some paragliders kept jumping off the hill at the Maori bay carpark and landing on the beach. This sunbather was really pissed when a guy landed on top of him
View across Maori bay with birds flying everywhere
Goldie Bush Walkway
Rope bridge along to the start of the Goldie bush walkway
The track was really muddy due to recent rain but had some nice native forest
Mokoroa Falls
There were a lot of stream crossings along the Mokoroa Stream track which was great fun...
...some had stepping stones and others you can to go through metre deep water
Mini waterfall
I couldnt resist a swim
