Tegernsee - Ross und Buchstein

22 October 2011

On the spur of the moment with the sun shining we packed the car and headed to the East Bavarian mountains for some tramping.
There was fresh snow so we had a great full on day playing in the snow and climbing this reasonably tough track.
We are so glad we decided to go as it was one of the best tramps of our trip.

After a steep climb through some the forest it wasnt long until we reached the fresh powder snow.

My little snowman

Looking up at the 2 summits - Ross and Buchstein at 1698m and 1701m

Towards the top there was some grade 2/3 climbing up some rough rock which kept it interesting

Magic view across the alps

Looking across the Bavarian Alps out towards Austria. This was the first of the two summits

After all that hard climbing they even had a hut at the top

Karen stopped for a beer while Katherine and I climbed the second summit

From the hut it was a very steep scramble to the second summit

On top of the world.....well actually only Germany

One side of the mountain was snow, the other was grass

A pic near the summit with our guide Katherin

We had a great view as the sun came down

We watched the sunset through the forest and made it back to the car right on dark

Our awesome dinner invention of Sauerkraut (pickled cabbage), knodel (dumplings) and parmesan cheese and tomato sauce. It tasted a lot better than it sounds
