Well you wouldnt think it but Hong Kong is a great place for hiking and we had a fantastic day hiking sections 1 and 2 of the Maclehose Trail around the Sai Kung Peninsula. We went through some really nice rainforest, past lots of beaches and exploring the coastline.
It took us awhile to get to the start of the track but after catching a number of trains and buses we made it to Pak Tam Au where we got on our way.
This evening we had a look at the 'Wine and Dine Festival' in Kowloon
Tramping seems to be really popular here with loads of people all along the track. There were a lot of campsites on and near the beaches
After tramping through the bush for two hours we came across Tai Long Village. You think you are in the middle of no where then there are restaurants and accomodation.
We stopped for a well needed lunch and swim at Ham Tim
The beach was picture perfect and it was so nice taking a dip and looking up into the stunning rouged mountains.
There was a small walk across this rickety old bridge to get to the restaurant and back on the track
Looking back over Ham Tim beach
Looking across at Sai Wan and down the coast. Another magic sunny day but you can never get rid of the haze from the pollution.
Looking back over Sai Wan. A helicopter went over head yelling something over the loud speaker - we asked a lady walking by and she said they were warning of fire danger
Almost at the peak of Sai Wan Shan at 314m
From the top of the ridge we got some great views of the High Island Reservoir
Most of the Maclehose track was made of concrete which made for easy walking. This is on our way down to the white sand beach of Long Ke.
At the East dam we saw a lot of hexagonal columns on the edges of the dam and along the coast. They are the largest and most expansive in the world.
Looking across the east dam. From here we walked alongside the road for another 10km to the West dam before catching a taxi back to the bus
HAHA - only in Hong Kong
Accommodation was hard to find because of the 'Wine and Dine Festival' so we went along to see what it was all about.
We samples some different wines and food at the stalls and watched some live entertainment on stage.
This is an underground walkway in Tsim Sha Tsui where they have people lanes. This just shows how orderly the people from Hong Kong are - they stick to the rules, keep to their own, and have no graffiti anywhere. I guess you need it to be like this in such a highly densely populated city.
