Hoge Veluwe National Park

26 September 2011

We decided to visit one of the Netherlands national parks so we found ourselves at Hoge Veluwe National Park. We had fun riding around the nice concrete paths through heather grass lands, oak forests and san

Driving along the 6km bridge. It felt like you were heading into the middle of the ocean.

We stopped for our breakfast at the end of the bridge.

There were highways running through the middle of the national park and land bridges for the animals to get across.

Biking through the grassland. We even spotted a viper snake.

Swamps on the east side of the park

Heather and grassland

Sand dunes. This entire area used to be dune but the grasslands and trees are taking over. They have many types of deer and sheep roaming in these open areas.

The visitor centre was really good with the history of the park and all about the wildlife and vegetation within it.

You pay your entry into the park and it includes free bikes. You just pick up a bike, ride it to one of the sights have a look around and then pick up another. With over 1700 bikes there is always one there for you.

Oak forests

We camped inside the park for the night

They had a really different system to NZ national parks with things like this secure phone charger box, pay showers, trolleys to take your things to your tent, and library
