We stopped in Antwerp for most of the day on our way through to Amsterdam. Antwerp is known as the Worlds diamond centre which trades 60% of the worlds polished production. They have a turnover of 40 billion a year which is 8% of Belgiums total export so we made sure we looked through some of the shops and saw some diamond cutters in action. We also walked through the city and climbed the Mass museum for a view of the city.
The city hall
Castle on the riverfront. I like how it has its own unique Belgium style with the stepped towers
The new Mass museum
After going up at least 10 escalators we reached the viewing platform on the roof where we could see all of Antwerp including the river here
The Antwerp Cathedral with its gigantic tower
Giant hand
They had some expensive rings. This was the most expensive one we could find for 20,000 Euro, so about $40,000NZD
This guy was shaping a diamond in this diamond exhibition we went to.
One of hundreds of stores selling diamonds
The train station was like a museum in itself with the incredible architect
Enjoying our private coach in a fast speed train to Amsterdam.
