From overcast cold London to sunny hot Spain we love the change. We jumped on a bus with some kiwis and americans and checked out the beaches.
We saw where all the Americas cups boats were housed in one of the several ports and visited the famous cathedral where the holy grail is said to be kept.
We chilled out with a few beers that arvo before heading with our tour to Requena for the 'Water and Wine Festival'. There was a fireworks display followed with us drinking in the streets. Our tour wasnt very organised or we would have gone in the bull ring to see the bands and baby bulls with the locals.
Then the real festival began where a truck with a massive wine tank went through the streets which you had to follow to full up your vessel. We followed the crowds through the alleyways and streets where locals on their balconies threw buckets of water all over us while we chanted "quiero agua" (we want water). Their were bands playing and people dancingin the streets - it was really fun.
It was a little sad that the place was overrun with mainly aussies but we still had a good time.
One of the cool murals on the walls of a hotel in the old city
The white sandy beaches stretched for miles down the coast. The water was really warm and salty. It was great to have a swim and soak up the sun
Topless for everyone is the way to go on the spanish coast, we felt a little out of place as you would never see that in NZ : )
We found the New Zealand Americas Cups base from the ...............Americas Cup.
We stopped at this local restaurant for lunch. We didnt really know what we were ordering as it was all spanish. We tried some nice spanish food but don't ask for Pescaditos (little fish) as you will get battered deep fried sprats (I thought it would be fish fingers).
We climbed the cathedral Tower for some great views of the city
Valencia cathedral. They say it is home to the Holy Grail.
Old city gateway
This was looking down into the old river bed which now is dried up and has parks, cycle ways and soccer fields in it.
