We picked up our bikes first thing this morning and after sorting out our panniers we were off on our 4 day bike in the Loire Valley. We had a great day on the cycle tracks which started following along up the river, then through some small towns, villages, farms and wineries. We stopped at Europes largest and best freshwater aquarium.
Tours cathedral was the highlight of the town
Enjoying the well defined cycle tracks up the Loire River along with many other cyclists
The big grapes in the winery region in Montlouis-sur-Loire
Enjoying all the blackberries through the farmland
Vineyard region where we tried a few grapes and wow they were tasty
It was a nice sunny day and many farmers were out harvesting their grapes.
There were signs to put your hands into this tank with all sorts of carp and they came up and sucked on our fingers.
This strange big fish is a type of carp
This 2m long fish is a Wels which comes out at night in the Loire River
This is the first time I have seen live horseshoe crabs...what strange looking animals
This was the most impressive of all the enclosures. It was full of 4 electric eels and the tank was equipped with sensors to measure the frequency, length and strength (volts) discharged from the eels. Every few seconds they created 50-500volts of electricity. They went crazy for 30 seconds constantly discharging 400+volts of electricity. Apparently they use this energy for hunting and communication.
They also had a shark tank with white and black tip sharks
Cruising through the streets of Amboise
We arrived into Blois quite late just as the sun was setting
Riding along the river at sunset into Blois
The main bridge into the city
We couchsurfed with Thomas
