Day trip to Venice

22 June 2011

A day trip into Venice created a fun hasselfree day in this exciting city. It worked out really well and we had plently of time to get a feel for Venice. We started with a walk from the train station to San Marco (basicly through the heart of Venice). We found the little bridges and narrow streets entertaining and surprised ourselves by not getting to lost- I think Mark can take the credit for this. We then caught a boat right through the grand canal and around past the other islands. We continued to explore, trying to avoid the flocks of tourists as best we could. We also decided to fork out for a gondola ride- this was for all the people that told us they had been to Venice and regretted not going on a gondola. It was quite fun, you feel very important.

We started the day with a trip around the through the grand canal and around the city in the public water taxi. It was really exciting and crazy busy

Some of the gondola drivers must have lived here with all their strippy tops hangin on the clothesline

Everything is brought in and out of Venice by boat - including the rubbish on this rubbish boat

$3NZ to go for a piss - yeah right.

My mum told us we had to go on a gondola ride, so here is the proof

Enjoying the luxury of our gondola ride through the quiet canals in the middle of the city

Karen enjoying the comfy seats as we head onto the grand canal past the main bridge.

Our gondola driver even sung to us lol. 40 minutes of luxury it was really fun

Walking across the second brige that crosses the main canal
