I started racing today feeling strong, fit and very prepared. I knew this would be a tough race to go well in due to the lack of water creating a long lactic sprint.
I didn’t let these doubts hold me back paddling my way to first place on the leader board after my first run with a fast time 4 seconds ahead of the other paddlers. It wasn’t until the last paddler, Australias Robin Jeffery went down that my lead turned to an extremely close 2nd ONLY 0.03 seconds at the end of these first runs. I went into second runs felling pretty good having a lead over most of the other competitors. I held the my second place during the second runs gaining a silver for the kiwis in the open mens C1.
This was a great start to the racing and shows I have a good chance to take the Aussie National Championships title.
