That’s more like it : ) : ) : ) World Cup 3, La Seu d’urgell, Spain

Some entertainment at the opening ceremony, it was very exciting

The team at the opening ceremony of world cup 3 in Spain.

I felt really good going into the race today. Really strong, relaxed and focused. The C1’s were the first class off, so I was up at the crack of dawn. I had a good warm up and walked the course a couple of times to make sure I had everything sorted.

My first run was very solid with some fast upstreams and cross overs on the waves. I was able to keep my boat moving throughout the course and only incurred one touch. I did however loose 6 seconds on gate 13, an upstream gate. I had a little too much speed coming into the gate set on the back of a whole.
Take off those 6 seconds and I would have been well up the field. My 30th placing after this first run put me in finals for tomorrow as long as I could hold that spot. I analysised the video and found some places where I could take off some seconds.

I started my second run not as online as I was in my first run but managed to keep it together and gained time in a couple of the upstreams at the top of the course. I didn’t have enough speed coming out of gate 10 and got surfed a couple of seconds ending up having to do a few seconds recuirck like many of the other paddlers. I minted gate 13 but then lost my bow in the shoot and had a very quick role before hammering it to the finish line. Its funny how I minted the gates I had problems with but then made errors in other parts of the course.

I watched as the times came through on the score board and knew that my time being 3 seconds slower than my first would put me right on the border for finals tomorrow. I ended up a happy 31st place only 2 seconds off finals.

This was by far my best race of the three World Cups. I don’t put my errors down to anything to do with race day and not being focused for all three world cups. I think it is more the lack of white water I have had in my build up to the events.

I am really looking forward to really putting the video through silicon coach in the next few weeks and seeing exactly where I am loosing time. I am already readjusting my training plan to get really fit so I can be ready for the worlds in 6 weeks, just enough time to really focus on my weak areas
