Potsdam

7 October 2011

We went to Potsdam a city on the outskirts of Berlin where the Kings and Queens had their palaces. What makes this place so special is that there is so many palaces in such a small area so every few hundred metres you come across another incredible building and gardens . Torrential rain was followed by blue sky and sunshine so we enjoyed the afternoon looking around the massive park grounds.

The 'Topography of Terror' an outside exhibiton on the full history of Germany was very interesting and well done with an overwhelming amount of information. It was also the headquarters of the Gestapo and SS during the WW2

The Nazi salute - anyone who didn't salute was said to be against the views of Hitler and the Nazi party and would go to jail or be murdered.

We love German bread and bakery. Everyday without fail we try something new at a German bakery which seem to be on every street

In Berlin everyone gets around on the S and U Bahns which are sort of like monorails except in the city centre

We walked through the Park Sanssouci where all the Berlin Kings had their palaces. There were really nice gardens in the Orangerieschloss.

Neue Kammerm

The main palace - Schloss Sanssouci

The gardens were amazing at this palace

Chinesisches Haus (Chinese House)

Roemanische Baedee (Roman baths)

The very tiny palace - Schloss Charlottenhof

This palace 'Neues Palais' was also really impressive but was undergoing renovation.
