Tower of London

25 August 2011

We woke up to real London weather today with cloud, rain and patches of sun in the arvo. We checked out a few more sights starting with the Tower of London
and the London Tower Bridge before heading into Westminster City to tick of a few of the Monopoly streets In the evening we set off for west London to stay with Karen's friend Karryn.

The tower grounds used to house all sorts of animals from Elephants and lions to snakes and monkeys. King Henry the 3rd had a polar bear tied to a rope so it could go fishing in the river Thames

One of the towers old cannons

The golden coin is the old english sovereign which was worth 240 silver pennies

Guard tower

One of the crowns used by the queen. There were hundreds of bits of cuttlery, weapons and crowns passed through the generations which were part of the crowns jewels.

The entire Tower of London from the banks of the Thames

We were there to see the bridge open for a big yacht

We also climbed the London fire monument built to comemorate the Great fire of London in 1666 which destroyed a large part of the city

Proud Karen with her certificate for successfully climbing the 311 steps up the tower
