Walking the dolomites

23 June 2011

We went hiking in the Brenta group of the Dolomites. Looking up at the mountains made you a little dizzy as there were km high cliffs around us. Unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side and much of the time the mountians were in clouds and we were hiding from the rain. On our 6 hour walk we past 4 rifugios, which are little mountain huts. They had restautants serving meals and some had rooms available- rather different from our DOC huts! We ended our walk at Lake Molveno and bused back to Trento where we met our hosts for dinner at a best Pizzeria in town.

From Andalo we walked through to this great lookout at La Montanara.

The weather changed from huge km high cliffs to large forested valleys.

The track climbed around some shear cliffs

Looking up to the top of the mountains when the cloud cleared

Rifigue del Altissimo where we stopped to warm up for much and a coffee

Some nice fresh water from a mountain waterfall

The mystical pine forests in the cloud

We have no idea how far this drop was but the track was pretty scary

We found some little frogs
