I have a really fast mountainbike and ride into the transition in 4th overall.
It started pissing down just before the race leaving the bike nice and muddy
After an intense 3hr run Andrew comes into the transition for the start of the kayak
Start of the 17km kayak down the river, then out Whitianga harbour to cooks beach
Andrew finished day one with a 30km bike to Tairua
I start day 2 with a full on mass start kayak
Andrew then did another 30km bike, then transition into the mountain run
I finish the hardest mountain run of my life. From the summit it was mud craters, quick sand, rocks, streams and puddles all the way down
After an awesome effort Andrew and I finish in 3rd place in the two man teams
30 August 2010
What an intense exciting weekend. Andrew and I decided a few months back to do the coromandel classic. A full on 2 day event with mountain biking, road cycling, running, and kayaking.
Day 1
Mountain Bike 22km - Mark
Mountain Run 27km - Andrew
Kayak 17km - Mark
Road Bike 30km - Andrew
Day 2
Kayak 15km - Mark
Road Bike 30km - Andrew
Mountain Run 22km - Mark
Road Bike 30km - Andrew
There were a good 23 teams in our two man team event and we surprisingly pulled out a 4th after a solid first day effort only 30seconds behind 3rd place and 1 minute behind second. Philip, Karen and Sharon were our support crew and turned out to be pros by the second day to push Andrew and I to finish in an exciting 3rd place.
