After finishing our Abel Tasman trek we took the bus to Mapua where we stayed with some old kayaking friends. Thanks Alison and Mike for a warm bed, cooked dinner and all we could eat apples and kiwifruit, just what we needed after a few days of hard tramping. Today we borrowed some bikes and followed the taste trail on the ferry to Rabbit Island before and cycling out to Richmond.
Right in kiwifruit season and staying with Mike and Alison we tried the new red variety of kiwifruit.
We rode down to the wharf and caught the ferry across from Mapua to Rabbit Island
Rabbit Island
The trail goes all the way into Nelson and as far as Motueka.
The landscape kept changing as we rode past orchards full of apples, parks, factories, farms, estuaries........
After lunch and a craft beer in Richard we headed back.
Cycling through the pine forests of Rabbit Island
Then we jumped on a late flight back to Auckland. I thought the Air NZ sick bag was very cool.
