Day 2 - Wild day at sea

19 January 2014

I had a pretty rough sleep after the constant rocking of the boat but managed to still feel great. The swell did not give up which made breakfast and lunch very amusing. Cups of water, food and people were flying across the tables, just trying to sit on your seat was a constant effort.

I spent most of the day on the bridge watching the big waves crash over the deck while trying to hold on. The sea legs has done the trick and I have managed to fight off the sea sickness however I hardly saw anyone else all day as most people on board spent the day tucked up in bed.

Late afternoon we reached Enderby island, the northern most island of the Auckland islands group where you sheltered in Port Ross. The wind was still howling at 40+ knots but the ship was finally stable and I had an amazing nights sleep.

We had a safety drill getting all 75 people onboard into these two small boats.

The 6m swell was enough for waves to breach the bow

Enjoying the typical weather of the Aucklands - windy, rainy and cold. It was so awesome to get here.
