Mirador del Migdia, Montjuic Castle, Port Vell

3 September 2011

We explored the rest of the city in including the Montjuic hills where we got 360 degree views of the city and coasts, Port Vell and the northern coast

Its amazing what an impact the Olympic Games can have to a city. Bacelonas port and seaside before the Olympics was the shit hole end of town but with all the work done with new waterfront, ports, buildings, hotels, shops, cinemas etc it is AMAZING.

This old bull ring has been turned into a department store

There were all sorts of shops and even a cinema complex and conference rooms

From the roof of the bull ring we had another great view.

This building looks like a palace which is the national Catalunya art museum. The fountains at the base of the steps turn into a fountain light show at night

Montjuic cemetery. Thousands of graves stacked on top of each other cover the hillside.

The Montjuic castle overlooks the entire city

One of the old guns at the city facing the mediterrannean and port

Looking out to Port Vell and the beaches

The gondula that crosses over Port Vell

The 60m high Christopher Columbus statute at the end of La Rambla

The Rambla de Mar pedestrain bridge connect Port Vell to La Rambla. We saw it moving to let the boat into the harbour

Our massive buffet lunch at Port Vell

Everywhere we went there was new architecture. These humps in the path at Port Vell were very cool

Cruising around in the bus making the most of the open top in the good weather

The Santa Eulalia cathedral is another impressive cathedral.

We saw a wedding taking place in this catheral

At 9pm everynight the steps of the National arts mueseum comes alive with lighted fountains and music.

They played all the classic songs with some really exciting displays

During the day all the waterfalls and fountains are turned off but at night they are so cool

looking out down teh main boulevard from the entrance of the museum
