After a well needed sleep in and a relaxing morning we decided to head into Leuven for the afternoon. It was a neat little city and home to the Stella brewery. We were there on the wrong day to do a brewery tour but had a Stella on tap at a pub in the old fishermans square.
We tooks around all the sights, laxed out in the park and checked out the fair they had on in the main square. We almost tried some snails in a salsa soup (also a Belguim delicacy) but couldn't make ourselves do it as they were so disgusting.
We then went for Brussels so see the city by night and Manu and Suzy took us out for a fantastic dinner at a traditional restaurant where we tried some of the most yummy food of our trip.
Leuven - home of Stella Artois. This is the brewery
The city hall was really unique with all the fine detail in the stone and the flags it really stood out
City Hall
The Leuven cathedral with some really interesting stained glass windows
What could be better than having a Stella in Leuven straight from the brewery
Beguinage of Leuven - where beguines (religious woman) lived. Part of the Unesco world heritage list
There were all these rides at the fun fair including this merry-go-round with real horses.
Our first Belguim waffle covered in chocolate was amazing..........it was so rich and sickly that we didnt need to eat for the rest of the afternoon
Our first look at the Atomium flashing at night was very spectacular
Manu finds us some yummy chocolates at one of the Belguim chocolate shops
The town hall by night
We went out to a typical Belguim restaurant in Brussels and we each tried a Belguim specialty.
This Belguim beef stew may not look great but tasted SO GOOD
We really liked the endives in this cheesy sauce. We also tried some rabbit and horse.
