Volcan de Agua, Fuego and Acatenango are easy to see from Pacaya

One of the lava flows

We were only 1-2 metres away from the lava flow so roasting marshmallows was a must

Smoking lava flows and the sunmit of Pacaya
28 September 2009
We got up super early to meet our shuttle to Volcan de Pacaya, 1 of 4 active volcanos in Guatemala. When we finally arrived at volcano we were met by a bunch of local children who insisted on selling us walking sticks for Q.3 (NZ$0.35). The walk up to the lava was about 2hrs, with some awsume views. We didn´t go right to the summit but went to an area lower down where there was lava flowing down. The rocks were very hot especially close to the lava. One Chinese guy wanted me to get a photo of him near the lava and his shoes melted with the heat. We toasted marshmellows on the lava with long sticks then made our way back down.
Off to Monterrico tomorrow to hang out with some turtles.
