C1Men and K1Men semis and final

22 September 2007

What an exciting day today. I was gutted I wasnt racing as the course looked really sweet.

Last years world champ Tony Estanguet from France was in good form and looked like he would regain his title, leading first runs by 2 seconds in front of Michael Martikan from Slovakia. However he lost it on the bottom of the course with his second run 4 seconds slower. Martikan finally got took the win which he has been hanging out for a long time. Estanguet was second followed by Robin Bell from Aussie. Glad to see Rob did so well as he missed out on medals last year after winning worlds in Australia in 2005.

There was a surprising win from france´s Sebastien Combot who had two minter runs in the K1Men. 2005´s World Champ Fabian Doerfler from Germany had some fat times and took out second and last years bronze World Medalist Campbell Walsh was able to hold on to third place.

Teams events were also yesterday. Bryden jumped in a C1 so James and I could have a team. We finished overall in 13th which is an improvement on last years 17th. We had a re run on our second run after catching up a hungarian paddler 1/2 way down despite the 3 minute gaps.
The K1Men ended up in 11th spot.
