Mike had pre booked accommodation for us 50 km away from the course using google earth. We were all excited about having beds to sleep in and a place to spread out for the week. We drove into Strabia with our eyes wide open. We had found the worst slums of Slovakia, half fallen down rotting houses, dirt and mud everywhere coupled with the smell of sewage and strange as people peaking their heads out from behind their curtains in their houses and staring the hell out of us as we drove past.
For those of you that have watched the movie ‘Hostel’, well this was one of those towns.

We arrived at the so called apartment to be taken to the attic of these peoples house. The showers and toilet were on a huge slant, so you have had swat to have a shower and sit sideways to go for a dump. The doors were made out of leather, I guess to wipe the blood off after they torchered and killed us : ( The beds were made out of carpet, they had a 19th century oven and to top if off they spoke no English. They seemed to want all this extra money in addition to what we had already paid for. We all looked at each other, wondering what the hell we were doing here. We quickly wrote a note in English saying we weren’t coming back, ran as fast down the stairs as we could, jumped in the car and drove as fast away from that place as we could not looking back for a second.

I will never forget the name STRABIA.
