Arrived at the Nationals site.

4 April 2007

Stopped in Christchurch for the night and had a paddle in the surf. The waves at Sumner were 2-3 foot which was enough to get some really good 30 second rides. Aurelain Leroy a slalom paddler from France joined us today for our trip to Nationals.

Had a night in Dunedin at James’s flat. Tried to get out to Waipori (the main slalom site out there) but the water didn’t turn on so had to settle for a lactic session on the harbour. Had some dramas when driving down his driveway and the boats didn't clear the roof of the flat leaving Sally with a big hole in her boat : (

Finally got to the roaring meg, Kawarau River (where the nationals is) at 1am this morning. This was where I had my first National Champs 10 years ago when I first started paddling, so it was extra cool to be back here.

This is a super cool area. The light blue, river located in a gorge surrounded by shear mountains. We are staying at Mikes parents friends batch. It is a huge vineyard only a few minutes from the course.
