Jarad getting ready to party after Germany wins against Argentina
31/6/06
Then, two days ago we left Bourg and drove the 10 hours to Augsburg, Germany where we will train the next 4 days before going to Prague for the training week in preparation for the World Champs.
We have done the entire tour so far with only a small map of Europe showing the main motorways. If we get lost we pull up beside some locals and ask in there language if they speak English. 90% of the time they don’t and we end up following the way they point as we can’t understand anything they say. Today was no exception where like always we got lost and followed some random directions from some locals who spoke no English. This always worked as we were put back on the right direction after no time at all.
We went training on the course this morning and after the huge rapids of Bourg, the Augsburg course looks like flat water : )
We were here in Germany at the right time to experience the excitement of a quarter final win against Argentina for the Germans. We were right in the action watching the game on the t.v. in our apartment in the city centre. They match was at a tie after extra time so came down to strokes. The city erupted as soon as the Germans got there 5th goal through in the penalty shootouts. I have never seen Germans so happy. The streets in the city were absolutely packed with people singing chants, yelling, blowing horns and dancing. Then further out of town the roads were congessed with Germans hanging out of there car windows holding German flags and beeping them horns constantly. I felt like I was back in Greece on a normal day lol.
