High Stile (Lake Buttermere)

26 July 2011

After we returned from Helvellyn we set off to the visitor center to decide on our next destination. We decided to head to Lake Buttermere and camp up on the track. We had an early dinner to avoid carrying cooking equipment and set off toward the tops to find a good place to camp. 2 1/2 hours later we finally reached the ridge and found some flat bushes to camp on. We actually had a very comfortable nights sleep. The next morning Karen was still trying to get over a lingering cold so we slept in and set off late. Unfortunatley our topo map didn't have this first part of the walk on it (we were too cheep to buy another so just had a few pictures) so we wern't sure entirely where we were until we reached the point where our map started. At this point we realised that either we had been walking very slowly or the estimated times in the books at the infomation center were rather optimistic. As we had to return the car by 3.30 we had to change our plans. Luckily this is England and there is always another route, so we took an earlier track back to the car and headed back to Windermere.
After tidying ourselves up and getting some washing started we treated ourselves to a pub dinner- we were a bit dissapionted with the food but it was a true English pub so a good experience none the less.
