Florence is the city of cues and amazing buildings. We had a great day checking out the sights.
The famous dome (cupola) of florences gothic cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore which is one of the largest in the world.
This overwhelmingly big cathedral from the outside
We climbed to the top of the dome and this was the terrace looking down into the cathedral
Some of the paintings on the dome by Michaelangelo of hell at the bottom and heaven on top
It was a hectic, hot climb up through the dome dodging people to get to the best view of the city. Its amazing that they could make a passageway in the dome like this with something and that the concrete dome with so much weight can still stand up on its own
A sea of buildings looking out into Florences city centre
Lookinf towards the main train station
The terrace around the very top was where we were standing
View down the main river
Ponte Vecchio - the only bridge in Florence that wasnt bombed in the world war.
It had all these jewelry shops lining the sides of the street. We found shelter in the shops as the weather sun turned to torrential rain and thunder and lightning
We queued for hours at the Galleria de Accademia for a glimpse of Michaelangelos giant sculpture of 'David'. However, we rang out of time and had to catch the bus home so we went and saw the replica sculptures instead
Replica of Michaelangelos giant sculpture of 'David'. Carved from a single block of marble this is probably the worlds most famous sculpture
Santa Croco Basilica
The Italians love their scooters and they line most of the streets in all the cities including Florence
