My first Marathon in Rotovegas

Feeling good and ready to go at the start line

Send off with a haka

Starting my stopwatch for the start of the marathon

10km mark and on form

I started to crash at the 30km mark and dad did a few km's to help keep me going

I finish in 3hr 56mins 08sec and little down on what I expected but just stoked to finish

Still smiling at the finish even though I cant walk

A big crowd turns up for the prisegiving

The oldest people to do the marathon came on stage. The ladies were 80/84 and the men 83/84/87. Hope I can still do them at that age.

1 May 2011

Over the last 3 months I have been training hard counting down for the rotorua marathon. The weather conditions were perfect and I felt really good at the start of the race. I started out slow and building following the 3.5hr pacers all the way to the 21km mark, however then I hit the hills at the back of rotorua near rotoiti and started to crash. I kept it going with mum and karen keep feeding me bananas and lollies and dad jogging 6km with me. They kept following me to make sure I was still pacing along until the end : ) Those last 15km were TOUGH.

I ended up picking up the pace again for the last couple of km and finished 3hr 56mins 08secs. The winning man took out a time of 2hr 23mins 01sec.
I finished 76th in my age group 16-36 and was the 381st overall of 1390 full marathon competitors which im happy with being my first.
I joined all the other finishes who were limping and hobbling around like 95 year olds. Two days on im starting to walk again but I think it will be awhile until i want to go go another run.
