Garvie Mountains

I found many specimens of Stethaspis pulcher but no live beetles

Camp for the night just as I got whited out by cloud.

Tussock weevil

A white out at Titan Rocks.

I found a family of south island pied oyster catchers next to a small pond in the tussock.

The cloud dropped and sat over the Waikaia all day

Some low cloud sweeping through

Low cloud covers the valley

An interesting alpine prickly plant.

Neat view

One of the many high country streams in the tussock

Another interesting alpine plant

An almost perfect dead jewel chafer specimen at Titan Rocks

21 December 2010

I managed to get back into the Garvie mountains for a couple of days in search of the jewel chafer Stethaspis pulcher. I camped at Titan Rocks and made it most of the way through the tussock highland to Blue Lake.
